CHADDS FORD TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — Woman are the fastest growing segment of the firearm industry.

“It’s no joke. You have to be ready because someone is going to grab that gun from you if you are not prepared,” said Jennifer Albert of Chadds Ford, Pa.

Ford is a member of A Girl and A Gun, a national women’s shooting organization.

“Our mission is to educate women and teach women firearm safety,” said Erinn O’Donnell with the organization.

Rebbie Jeantet, whose husband signed her up for the class, learned she’d be arming herself a half hour before it started.

Jeantet, of Parkside, Pa., told Action News the idea of going to the gun range and learning about guns was “cool”.

Recent studies suggest one in five gun sales is to a woman.

While safety is largely the number one reason women are taking up arms, recreation is another.

O’Donnell, who runs the local chapter, said the education will need to continue. There are risks, but guns are not just for the guys.

“That was fun, that was a lot of fun,” said Jeantet. “It was intimidating, but I felt good by the fifth shot.

“I don’t think I could ever, though, shoot towards a person. I don’t think I could,” said Jeantet.
