Safari Club International this week canceled its upcoming 49th annual Hunters’ Convention in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, SHOT Show is still all systems go.

SCI said its move to scrap the event, which was scheduled for Jan. 2021 at Mandalay Bay, came after "much contemplation and exhaustive effort."

The sportsmen group explained that "COVID-19-related restrictions imposed by the state of Nevada and city of Las Vegas to ensure a safe event environment during the ongoing pandemic has made it impossible to conduct a successful event for our members and exhibitors, or serve the greater good of wildlife conservation."

The organization said they do, however, plan to hold the 2022 Hunters' Convention in Las Vegas.

SHOT SHOW STILL ON THE CALENDAR

With the cancelation of the SCI show, which was set for Feb. 3-6, 2021, thoughts naturally turn to the National Shooting Sports Foundation's annual Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show, which is scheduled for Jan. 19-22, 2021. Like SCI, SHOT is held in Las Vegas, where it has called home for a generation.

"SHOT Show is full speed ahead," Mark Oliva, director of public affairs with NSSF, told Guns.com on Thursday. "It will look different this year and will certainly feel different, but we’re doing everything we can to comply with state and federal guidelines to make the show a success."

Oliva said there will be mask requirements at the same time that aisles will be larger to allow for increased distancing. Further, there will be temperature checks going into the show and touchpoints will be reduced to a minimum to cut down on gathering locations. Hand sanitizing stations will be widely available.

"Registration is open. Exhibitors have signed up. NSSF is doing everything possible to make this show happen," said Oliva.
