A man has been taken to a hospital as a trauma alert after being shot multiple times with a pellet gun by his girlfriend’s father, according to Volusia County deputies.
The incident was reported as a domestic disturbance just before 7:30 a.m. in the front yard of a residence in the 1400 block of Stevens Avenue.
Deputies said the victim, 37-year-old Lawrence Scandell, was shot in the leg, chest and arms with a pellet gun by his girlfriend’s father, Douglas Barbee, 51.
According to the report, Scandell was arguing with his girlfriend outside of the residence and Barbee went to investigate, armed with a pellet gun.
Barbee shot Scandell eight times, striking him in the upper right portion of the chest and leg, deputies said.
Scandell was taken by ambulance as a trauma alert to Central Florida Regional hospital in Sanford. He is in stable condition.
Barbee was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis at the time of his arrest, deputies said.
He was arrested and the pellet gun was recovered at the scene.
