A 59-year-old man is in critical condition after police say he waved a gun at officers on Friday night on Detroit’s west side.
The incident happened at around 9:50 p.m. when officers were called to Joy and Greenview on a report of a man firing shots, said Sgt. Cassandra Lewis, a Detroit police spokesperson.
Officers eventually located the man at Joy and Artesian, but when they confronted him, he refused to put the gun down and waved it at officers, according to Lewis.
Five officers eventually opened fire, striking the man five times. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Lewis said.
No officers were injured. They will likely be placed on administrative leave but the investigation is still fluid, Lewis said.
More details were not available Friday night.
