At Least 50 Guns Stolen From Anderson Gun Store

ANDERSON, Ind. — Dozens of stolen guns are in the hands of criminals following a gun store break-in in Anderson. This week, crooks broke into the Crack Shot gun store and stole 50-60 firearms.
Anderson has three gun stores in town. In the last two months, all three stores have been broken into and had guns stolen.
The crimes started at Gunslingers in August, again days later at 9 Guns, and now at Crack Shot.
The three thefts have resulted in well over a hundred stolen weapons.
“The biggest problem is these guns are floating out there. It makes me cringe when I hear a cop is shot because it could be one of our guns,” said Gunslingers owner Shawn Nelson.
So far, only a handful of his stolen guns have been recovered. Some already out of the state.
“We know for a fact our guns got shipped up to Chicago,” said Nelson.
At Crack Shot, police believe the thieves cut the phone lines, broke in through the roof and stole items from a small computer repair business as well as the dozens of handguns.
Police recovered one gun in a nearby field and say it’s crime they take very serious.
“We’re going to do everything we can. Our goal is to recover every firearm stolen,” said Anderson police Sgt. Chad Boynton.
Four suspects, including two juveniles, were arrested for the Gunslingers break-in.
Shawn thinks the best way to cut down on the wave of gun thefts is for judges to hand down tougher sentences to teenagers willing to steal deadly weapons.
“They have to have some repercussions for what they’ve done and that’s what they’re not getting,” said Nelson. “It’s screwed up. Our judicial system is just completely screwed up. Period.”
Anderson police are working with the ATF to try and track down the stolen guns.
So far no arrests have been made in the theft this week.
